BRADLEY MERRILL THOMPSON is a shareholder in the national law firm of Epstein Becker & Green, P.C., in the firm’s Washington DC office. There he counsels software, medical device, and drug companies on a wide range of FDA regulatory issues, and leads the firm’s AI practice. Brad is also Chairman of the Board and Chief Data Scientist for EBG Advisors, the firm's consulting affiliate. In his practice, Brad regularly advises developers of new AI-based products seeking FDA clearance or approval, providing advice for the development of well over 100 AI-driven technologies in health care. For trade associations, Brad has served as counsel to AdvaMed and the Continua Health Alliance, and as General Counsel to the Combination Products Coalition, mHealth Regulatory Coalition, the Clinical Decision Support Coalition, and AI Startups in Health Coalition. He has taught Food & Drug Law at Indiana University School of Law and has served as Co-Chair of the Food & Drug Law Committee of the American Bar Association and the Medical Device Committee of FDLI. He received his BA in mathematical economics, and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his JD and a Master of Applied Data Science from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. A math guy, Brad develops his own algorithms to analyze FDA data, and publishes a monthly blog post entitled Unpacking Averages™ to share his data analysis. Unpacking Averages earned a 2024 Reader's Choice Award from JD Supra.
